On October 10th, 2024, I was invited to speak at CMS Kluge’s Forum for IT Procurement in Oslo.
The event brings together public sector buyers and technology providers to discuss how digital services are procured, evaluated and governed — particularly as cloud, regulation and AI continue to reshape the landscape.
My contribution focused on sustainability and cloud services, specifically how environmental considerations should be understood when procuring digital infrastructure.
Equally interesting were the discussions from the public sector side.
There was a clear focus on decision-making under uncertainty — balancing innovation with responsibility. AI was a recurring theme, particularly around how the use of information is regulated, as highlighted in sessions by Ove A. Vanebo and Mikkel Lassen Ellingsen from CMS Kluge.
Sustainability was another key topic, including how environmental parameters should be understood when procuring digital services — an area I also addressed from a cloud perspective.
The forum also included broader discussions on recent developments and open dialogue with participants, led by Anne Buan at CMS Kluge. There was a clear focus on decision-making under uncertainty — balancing innovation with responsibility. AI was a recurring theme, not just in terms of opportunity, but also hesitation and risk. Questions around control, data usage and long-term consequences came up repeatedly.
It highlighted something important: procurement is no longer just about price and functionality. It is increasingly about trust, governance and the ability to make decisions in areas where the technology is evolving faster than the frameworks around it.
In many ways, these are the same questions that have shaped the direction of WAYSCloud — around control, transparency and where infrastructure should ultimately reside.
